Korea: Heavy rains cause flooding of homes and roads

Heavy rains fell on the greater Seoul area and Gangwon Province in eastern Korea overnight, causing homes and roads to flood and resulting in about 540 reports of property damage.

The Central Safety and Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters reported that the rainfall formed a 20 cm deep layer of water on land in the Seoul area and Gangwon Province in eastern Korea between midnight and 10 a.m. today, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. Authorities received 148 reports of flooding of homes and roads and 392 reports of falling trees and other debris. The central headquarters warned that heavy rains would continue until tomorrow, Sunday, with a 300 mm layer of water forming on land in some areas.
