At least six people were killed when several buildings collapsed in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, India yesterday, the latest fallout from heavy rains that disrupted travel and closed schools in the city. Local authorities reported that two or three multi-story buildings in a slum in Mumbai's Mankhurd area collapsed, killing five children and a woman.

The rains also triggered landslides on the highway connecting Mumbai to Pune, causing its closure and disrupting traffic between the two cities. Flights were also disrupted and long-distance train services, such as those linking Mumbai and Pune, were canceled.
