Six people were killed after several buildings collapsed in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, India, following heavy rains that caused widespread transport disruption and school closures.

Indian authorities said the collapses involved multi-story buildings and homes in a residential area, resulting in the deaths of five children and a woman, along with significant damage to infrastructure.

The heavy rains also triggered landslides on the highway linking Mumbai and Pune, leading to its closure and traffic disruptions, as well as affecting air travel and canceling several long-distance train services.

Rescue teams and civil defense personnel continue search operations for missing individuals believed to be trapped under the rubble, amid fears that the death toll may rise in the coming hours.
