Ushakov explained that the call began with Putin congratulating his US counterpart and the American people on the 250th anniversary of US independence.
He said: "The telephone conversation held today between the heads of state began with President Vladimir Putin personally congratulating Donald Trump and the entire American people on this significant occasion, recalling Russia's contribution to the development of the American state."
