The American platform X suspended the account of the British Consulate General in occupied Jerusalem for unknown reasons.

Since Sunday evening, the consulate's page has displayed the phrase 'Account suspended,' and as of 12:50 GMT on Monday, the consulate had not commented on the suspension of its account.

Israeli activists and human rights organizations assert that there is pressure on social media platforms to restrict any content supporting the Palestinian people or criticizing Tel Aviv's practices.

The last post that appeared on the British consulate's X account included a statement issued by 11 countries and the European Union regarding Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.

In addition to Britain, the joint statement was issued by Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the European Union.

The same statement appears posted on the accounts of the signatory countries, as well as on the European Union's account.

The statement indicated that it concerns 'the excessive use of administrative detention by the Israeli authorities without formal charges.'

It said: 'More than 9,000 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, including thousands detained without charge or trial' (administrative detention).

It added: 'Human rights organizations describe conditions in Israeli prisons as harsh and life-threatening, citing lack of food, denial of medical care, and systematic abuses.'

It continued: 'We are deeply concerned about recent reports regarding the deteriorating health of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya,' director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

Since December 2024, Israel has been detaining Abu Safiya without an indictment, and he suffers from harsh detention conditions in the underground facility 'Rikveft,' and has spoken about being subjected to torture.

The joint statement emphasized that 'detainees have the right to know the charges against them, and must be granted the right to legal assistance and a fair trial.'

It called on Israel to 'fulfill its human rights obligations towards detainees under international law, including granting the International Committee of the Red Cross immediate access to all detention facilities.'

Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, including children and women, suffer from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, which has led to the deaths of dozens of them, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations.

Attacks against prisoners in prisons have escalated since Israel began its genocide in the Gaza Strip on October 8, 2023, which has resulted in more than 73,000 Palestinian deaths, most of them children and women.

In 1948, Israel was established on lands occupied by armed Zionist militias that committed massacres and caused the displacement of at least 750,000 Palestinians; then Israel occupied the rest of the Palestinian territories and refuses to withdraw from them.
