Thirty-five Palestinian prisoners were transferred Wednesday to Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, after Israel released them via the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Medical sources told Anadolu correspondent that the prisoners arrived at the hospital on a bus belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross, to undergo medical and clinical examinations and to check on their health conditions after their detention period.

The sources did not immediately provide details about the length of detention of those released, or whether any of them suffered from injuries or health problems.

For its part, the International Committee of the Red Cross said in a brief statement that its teams "facilitated the transfer of the released individuals from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip."

From time to time, Israel releases limited batches of Palestinians it detained from the Gaza Strip during the genocide war, while human rights organizations and testimonies of former prisoners speak of detainees suffering torture, starvation, medical neglect, and mistreatment inside Israeli prisons and detention centers.

The intermittent releases come within the framework of a prisoner exchange agreement concluded by Hamas and Israel with mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, and under American sponsorship, which went into effect on October 13, 2025.

Under the agreement, Israel has released about 1,700 prisoners from the Gaza Strip.

The genocide war waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip, with American support, has resulted in more than 73,000 killed and 173,000 injured, along with widespread destruction affecting about 90 percent of infrastructure, according to Palestinian data.

According to Palestinian human rights organizations, more than 9,600 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli prisons, including about 350 children and 84 women, amid reports of torture, medical neglect, and mistreatment.
