Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on Saturday that Safadi held a phone call with his Qatari counterpart.

The call between Safadi and Al Thani comes amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran in recent days.

According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers discussed 'efforts to restore regional calm and end escalation, and ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement that the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached on June 15, 2026'.

The two ministers stressed 'the importance of ending the dangerous escalation and warned of its consequences,' and emphasized 'the need to return to the negotiating table and adopt dialogue as a way to resolve the crisis'.

Safadi praised 'the efforts made by Qatar to ensure the implementation of the agreement, restore calm, and enhance stability in the region'.

The two ministers also affirmed 'solidarity in facing any threats to their security and the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council states'.

They also discussed a number of bilateral issues 'in the context of the joint keenness to strengthen the strategic brotherly relations between the two sisterly countries,' according to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry statement.

On Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced conducting strikes targeting about 90 Iranian military sites, including air defense systems, missile and drone warehouses, naval capabilities, and logistical structures on the Iranian coast.

In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced targeting US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, warning of expanding its attacks if the US strikes continue.

The Iranian Health Ministry said the US attacks resulted in 17 deaths and 115 injuries.

The Gulf region has been witnessing escalating tensions since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28 last.

Since Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 last, negotiations between them have continued with Qatari and Pakistani mediation to reach a final agreement.
