Algeria and Germany adopted on Thursday a joint declaration on a strategic agenda for bilateral partnership, identifying six main areas of political, economic, development, cultural and security cooperation.

The joint declaration came during the official visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the German capital Berlin, which continues until Friday, according to a statement from the Algerian presidency.

According to the statement, both sides affirmed their desire to deepen the 'long-term' bilateral partnership and cooperation in various fields.

They emphasized the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation in facing global challenges.

The statement indicated that the two sides 'renew their commitment to multilateral cooperation in which the United Nations plays a central role, and to a world order based on international law, including respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of each state, and the protection of human rights and humanitarian principles.'

In the political and diplomatic field, the two countries agreed to establish 'regular political dialogue and comprehensive consultations covering bilateral relations, regional and international issues, migration and security.'

Alongside 'regular high-level political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries,' according to the statement.

They expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the talks that brought the two countries' leaders together in Berlin.

On the economic and energy side, the statement affirmed that Germany remains among Algeria's main European partners, with both sides expressing their desire to strengthen trade and investment relations and improve the business climate.

The joint declaration highlighted 'the strategic importance of their long-term bilateral energy partnership.'

The declaration added that 'increasing gas supplies serves the interests of both sides.'

The two sides also affirmed their willingness to discuss future cooperation in the fields of energy, energy transition, infrastructure, technology, transport, health, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, agriculture and industry.

On sustainable development, the two sides welcomed ongoing projects in strategic sectors and agreed to 'enhance their cooperation to reduce methane emissions,' alongside 'intensifying their cooperation in the field of environmental and climate protection.'

In the security field, the two sides welcomed the ongoing dialogue on regional and global security issues, including 'cooperation in the areas of defense, terrorism, cybersecurity and disinformation.'

Earlier on Thursday, Tebboune held talks with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin, as part of his official visit to Berlin.

On Wednesday, the Algerian president began an official visit to Germany that lasts until Friday, at the invitation of Steinmeier.
