The British Labour Party, currently in power, today (Friday) approved the election of veteran politician Andy Burnham as its new leader by acclamation, in a step that paves the way for him to become Prime Minister, succeeding current Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Foreign Secretary and Labour leader Shabana Mahmood confirmed during a special party conference that 'in the absence of any other eligible candidate, it is my honor to announce that the duly elected new leader of the Labour Party is Andy Burnham.'

This appointment marks a pivotal step for the Labour Party, reflecting internal consensus on Burnham's leadership and setting the party on a new course in preparation for future political challenges in Britain.
