Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy called on the United States and Iran to immediately de-escalate and return to talks, warning of the serious repercussions of the ongoing escalation in the region, especially in the Arabian Gulf, and the resulting expansion of the cycle of violence and further security and economic losses at the regional and global levels.

The Secretary-General also affirmed in a statement the rejection of Iranian attacks on a number of Arab countries, stressing that the Arab states have previously rejected war and should not bear the consequences of its continuation or escalation, calling for the restoration of calm and adherence to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Iranian and American sides last June, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.

The Secretary-General stressed that the current stage requires prioritizing the voice of wisdom and returning to the approach of negotiation and talks to address outstanding issues, contributing to enhancing security and stability and avoiding further tension in the region.
