Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the capital Ankara enhanced its presence on the international stage to an unprecedented level, through its successful hosting of a historic summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
He made the remarks after chairing a government meeting on Monday at the presidential complex in the capital Ankara.
President Erdogan added: "Compared to other NATO meetings, in which I participated in a large part, the Ankara summit was among the summits that received the greatest media attention."
He noted that the NATO leaders' summit in Ankara constituted a meeting "in which the ancientness and deep-rooted traditions of our state were manifested."
During his speech, President Erdogan touched upon the Srebrenica massacre, which was committed by Serbian forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina about three decades ago.
The Turkish president stressed that his country is doing everything in its power to prevent the recurrence of tragedies similar to the Srebrenica massacre.
He said: "We will continue to work for a stable and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina where different beliefs, cultures, and ethnic identities live in peace."
