The death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026 rose to 4,490, according to an official announcement.
Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, said in a post on the American platform "X" on Monday that the death toll had risen by 157 people to 4,490.
He added that the number of injured as a result of the disaster reached 16,740 people.
According to local media, the Venezuelan government announced the start of a biometric census to accurately determine housing needs after the earthquake disaster.
The Venezuelan government, according to initial assessments, expects the need to build about 25,000 new homes.
On June 24, a double earthquake struck Venezuela, the first with a magnitude of 7.2 and the second with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale.
On June 26, the United Nations Development Programme announced that the cost of direct physical damage is estimated at about $6.7 billion.
Search and rescue operations continue in the country, amid fears of further increases in the number of dead and injured.
