Iranian media reported on Tuesday that several explosions were heard on Qeshm Island, part of Hormozgan province in southern Iran.
The Hormozgan province also announced in a statement that the United States launched an attack on Qeshm Island at 7:00 p.m. local time.
Local authorities did not immediately disclose further details regarding the nature of the attack or the extent of the damage caused.
In June 2026, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding including a ceasefire, following Qatari and Pakistani mediation, paving the way for a final agreement to end the war. However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire had ended due to renewed escalation.
