(CNN)-- Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Wednesday that a US strike in southern Iran killed three members of a nature reserve guard's family.

Baghaei explained that the strike targeted an environmental protection point and a guard station in a village in Hajjiabad County in Hormozgan province.

CNN cannot independently verify Baghaei's claims.

In response to an inquiry about these claims, a US official at Central Command (CENTCOM) did not specifically address them, merely saying that "US forces conducted a number of additional strikes on military targets in Iran to eliminate emerging threats."

Iranian state-run Press TV reported that the guard was on duty at the time of the strike but survived without injuries, noting that two of his sons and the wife of one of them were killed.

Baghaei said: "The list of US crimes against Iranians grows longer day by day, and with each passing day, the United States reveals another aspect of its hostility towards Iran."

He added: "Each new crime increases the resolve of Iranians to seek justice and demand the trial and punishment of those responsible for ordering and carrying out these acts."
