Volcanic Landmarks
The Hail region hosts a number of unique geological features that reflect a natural history spanning millions of years, most notably the Al-Hutaymah crater located east of Jabal Salma in the far northeast of the Arabian Shield near the village of Tabah. The crater represents one of the most important geological evidence of ancient volcanic activity in the north of the Kingdom.
The crater, with a diameter of 1.25 km and a depth of 110 m, stands out amidst diverse terrain where mountains and volcanic plains intermingle, creating an exceptional natural landscape that combines scientific and aesthetic value. It formed as a result of ancient volcanic activity that helped shape the region's geological features, remaining today a natural landmark that attracts researchers, earth science enthusiasts, and adventure travelers.
Al-Hutaymah crater is distinguished by its unique geological formation that reflects multiple stages of natural transformations. It is surrounded by dark volcanic rocks formed by lava flows, while its floor contains natural sediments shaped by erosion and weathering over thousands of years, creating a striking visual contrast between the site's natural components.
