Britain's King Charles III praised the design of Cambridge Central Mosque, the first eco-friendly mosque in Europe, during his visit to the mosque on Monday, expressing his admiration for the quality of the design and the care taken in its construction, and affirming that it makes a significant contribution to the Muslim community and the city of Cambridge.

King Charles visited Cambridge Central Mosque, where he learned about the environmental standards adopted by the first eco-friendly mosque in Europe. He was greeted by a crowd of well-wishers on Mill Road, before meeting prominent figures and worshippers inside the building.

The mosque's environmental features include high-efficiency heat pumps, solar panels, and a system for collecting surplus water from wash basins and rainwater. The building also relies on large roof openings that provide natural lighting throughout the year.

The king entered the prayer hall after removing his shoes, where he was presented with a book about the mosque, which can accommodate a thousand people. He also chatted with school students, joking that he hoped he had not 'ruined the holiday too much by bringing you here'.

During the visit, King Charles unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the 75th anniversary of Cambridge being granted city status by his grandfather King George VI, before describing the visit as a 'pleasure'.

Addressing those present, the king said: 'I am very impressed by the quality of the design, and by all the care and attention that has been put into it. It makes a huge contribution, I am sure, not only to the Muslim community but to the city of Cambridge itself.'

He continued: 'So I congratulate you and I sincerely hope that you continue to achieve every possible success and that you continue your work with other faiths in this field to set a wonderful example of integrated religious activity.'
