Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee Chairman Ebrahim Azizi announced on Tuesday that a bill regarding the Strait of Hormuz, including the imposition of tolls on ships passing through it, was officially submitted to parliament on Monday night.

Azizi said in a post on platform X: 'This is the first step, and subsequent measures are on the way.'

He added: 'We will remain firm in defending our red lines, especially regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz.'

According to Bloomberg news agency, the bill aims to establish a legislative framework to regulate the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, including imposing tolls on them.

These developments coincide with escalating tensions between the United States and Iran amid a struggle for control over the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of global oil production passes.

Earlier on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Iranian army said the Strait of Hormuz 'will not be opened by American aggression and war.'

US President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that the United States will control the Strait of Hormuz and impose a 20% toll on passage through it.
