The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre announced on Monday that a strong earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck wide areas in western Iran.

According to preliminary data from the centre, reported by the Shafaqna news website, the epicenter was at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers beneath the Earth's surface, explaining why residents in surrounding areas and neighboring provinces felt the tremor clearly.

No official reports have yet been received from Iranian authorities or relief teams regarding casualties or major damage to infrastructure, while field assessment teams have begun inspecting areas near the epicenter to ensure the safety of residents.

Various regions in Iran have experienced successive earthquakes over the past few days.
