Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the Asia-Pacific region is among the most important areas for his country in terms of economic and political interests.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Russian Security Council today, Putin said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will speak today about the priorities that the Foreign Ministry proposes to focus on in the Asia-Pacific region; this region is among the most important, and by that I mean both our economic and political interests, according to Russia Today.

The Russian president continued, saying that much has been accomplished recently, and I asked our Foreign Minister to present us today with a report on the Foreign Ministry's vision for organizing this work and coordinating it among various entities.
