Iraqi security forces continued to carry out security operations targeting former officials and deputies, as part of their campaigns to combat corruption and recover public funds.

Iraqi media reported that security forces raided, at dawn on Sunday, the home of former deputy Talal al-Zubaie in the Harithiya neighborhood on Al-Zeitoun Street, and arrested him and two of his sons on charges of financial corruption.

Al-Zubaie previously served as head of the Integrity Committee in the Iraqi parliament during previous sessions.

Media also reported that Iraqi forces raided the home of politician and Iraqi minister Ahmed al-Asadi, and found large sums of money and gold bullion worth more than 20 billion Iraqi dinars.

It added that Iraqi forces raided, at dawn on Sunday, the home of Ahmed al-Asadi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in the government of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, inside the Green Zone, and found sums of money ranging between 5 and 7 million dollars, along with 13 gold bars hidden inside a car in his home, while he managed to flee.

It explained that al-Asadi, born in 1970, is a prominent leader in the Shiite Coordination Framework and a current deputy, and he fled to an unknown location, while security forces arrested one of his relatives from his home in the Green Zone in central Baghdad.

More than 47 deputies in the Iraqi parliament, along with deputy ministers, general directors, and prominent political figures, are under investigation in a corruption case and embezzlement of public funds, led by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Adnan al-Jumaili.
