Iran announces bombing of al-Tanf military base in Syria
Official media quoted Iran's Revolutionary Guards as saying on Friday that they attacked a US special operations command center in al-Tanf, Syria, in response to the killing of Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr.
In a statement published by Iranian television on the Telegram app, it said: 'The Revolutionary Guards announce a surprise attack on the enemy's special operations command center in the Syrian al-Tanf area.'
The United States had announced in February that it had withdrawn its forces from this base and handed it over to the Syrian authorities.
Syria has tried to avoid being dragged into the war in the region, which has expanded to countries including Lebanon, where Hezbollah is fighting Israeli forces, and Iraq, where Iran-backed armed groups have launched attacks with rockets and drones.
