Lebanon awaits 'positive results' from the summit between US President Donald Trump and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Washington, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told Asharq Al-Awsat: 'The lesson after this meeting is to solidify the ceasefire and withdrawals, which has not happened yet.'

Berri responded to the US president's greeting, who said that Berri would join the track when he sees the progress the agreement is making, and said laughingly: 'It seems that President Trump understands me more than some Lebanese,' indicating that he does not oppose the diplomatic option that the Lebanese state is pursuing to achieve an Israeli withdrawal from the south, the return of residents, and reconstruction if the track succeeds in securing those demands.

The Lebanese army continued yesterday to uncover war remnants in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, the first of the towns included in the model area, with the aim of securing the area and safely returning residents.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that the Israeli withdrawal that began from some areas is only a start, and that the state's goal remains achieving a complete withdrawal from all Lebanese territories.
