A British maritime agency reported that it received a report of a maritime incident 17 nautical miles east of the city of Dibba in the UAE.

The agency stated that the captain of a ship reported his vessel had been attacked by a projectile of unknown origin, resulting in damage to the steering gear.

Another ship had previously caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after being hit by a projectile near the Omani coast.

The crew of the ship was evacuated, while the vessel remained adrift and on fire for several hours.

The conflict in the Middle East escalated over the weekend, with the United States launching attacks for the ninth consecutive night on Iran, while US allies Kuwait and Bahrain reported further Iranian attacks.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Monday that two oil tankers had been hit by explosions and stopped sailing after attempting to cross what it described as an unsafe southern passage in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the US military had encouraged them to use that passage.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on Monday that mediators had conveyed messages to Tehran over the past few days, without specifying the content of the proposals included.
