The United Nations World Food Programme warned today that it will be forced to make further cuts to its aid to Gaza, where it supports 70 percent of the population, unless it receives additional funding.

According to Reuters news agency, this comes after the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification initiative, a global hunger monitoring observatory, said that more than two-thirds of Gaza's population could face severe levels of hunger by the end of the year as humanitarian organizations reduce aid flows due to lack of funding.

The results of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification showed that the number of people facing acute hunger fell to 1.2 million between mid-April and the end of June.

It is expected to rise to more than 1.4 million people, equivalent to 67 percent of the population, by December, with the initiative warning that the gains achieved are at risk as aid begins to decline.
