Burhanettin Duran, head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, said that the adhan of Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque will forever echo in the skies of Turkey.
He made the statement in a post on his account on the Turkish platform 'In Social' on Friday, noting that today marks the sixth anniversary of the historic decision to reopen Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque for worship, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Duran added: 'The adhan of Hagia Sophia, God willing, will continue to echo in our skies forever.'
He continued: 'Thanks to the will demonstrated by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the adhan returned to rise in Hagia Sophia, making it a symbol of the strong bond rebuilt with history, civilizational consciousness, and the will of the nation.'
On July 10, 2020, the Turkish Council of State annulled the Cabinet's decision of November 24, 1934, which had converted Hagia Sophia from a mosque into a museum, and it was reopened for worship on July 24, 2020.
Hagia Sophia, a unique artistic and architectural monument located in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul, was used as a mosque for 481 years before being converted into a museum in 1934. It is one of the most important architectural landmarks in the history of the Middle East.
