The French government called on the Iran-allied Houthis to halt their attacks on Saudi oil tankers, describing these attacks as a dangerous and irresponsible escalation.

A spokesperson for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters at a press conference, "Houthi attacks on Saudi oil tankers are an irresponsible and dangerous escalation."

Houthis in Yemen had announced that they attacked two Saudi oil tankers as part of a naval blockade on the Kingdom, threatening to create a second chokepoint that disrupts global oil supplies, alongside the near-complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz... The French Foreign Ministry also announced the evacuation of its embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran, after it was subjected to threats.

For her part, European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said that the Iran-allied Houthi group in Yemen must halt all activities that endanger international navigation and the lives of seafarers.

Kallas added in a statement that the latest threats made by the Houthis to impose a blockade in the Red Sea "constitute a direct threat to stability in the region and represent a serious escalation."
