France affirmed during a UN Security Council session on developments in Yemen the need to respect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, calling on the Houthi group to cease threats targeting maritime security.

France's representative to the Security Council, Jérôme Bonnafont, said that ensuring the free passage of ships in the Red Sea is a priority, stressing the need to work towards securing navigation in this vital maritime corridor.

Bonnafont added that the Houthis must put an end to their threats, affirming that France will continue its efforts within the framework of Operation Aspides to ensure the continued safe passage of ships in the Red Sea.

The French representative's remarks came during a Security Council session held to discuss the latest developments in Yemen, where he stressed the importance of maintaining maritime security and ensuring freedom of transit in the Red Sea.
