France summoned the Iranian chargé d'affaires after the detention of staff at its embassy in Tehran, according to Al Arabiya.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned what he described as extremely serious intimidating acts by Iranian security forces against French diplomats. He added that the diplomats were detained for hours without any justification, interrogated, and one of them was assaulted before being allowed to return to the embassy.

France considered that what happened is extremely serious and unacceptable regarding the safety of its staff, and vowed that it would not go without consequences.
