From the South to Prisons: Unknown Fate of Syrians Detained by Israel
"They told her: Look for him in groups that publish photos of prisoners inside Israeli prisons." With these words, the mother of Shadi Qasim Zeina began her search for her 16-year-old son, after news of him stopped, in an attempt to obtain any information that would reveal his fate.
CNN Arabic tracks the testimonies of Syrian families who have lost contact with their loved ones since the start of the Israeli incursion into southern Syria following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, and documents cases of detention and transfer of Syrians into Israel.
The report is based on family testimonies, UN documents and information, including what was published by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, which documented the detention of Syrians and the transfer of some of them into Israel, and said their families were unable to communicate with them.
