(CNN)-- In the heart of Oman, specifically near the village of Al Yaa in the Qurayat district, 'mushroom rocks' stand as one of the world's most unusual geological formations.

Over many years, winds carrying sand played a key role in shaping them, gradually carving their bases while their tops remained wider, eventually taking on the shape of mushrooms.

Omani adventurer Qasim Al Naabi was among the lucky people to visit and capture them with his camera lens. (Watch the video above.)

Al Naabi told CNN in Arabic: "In the first moments of my arrival at the mushroom rocks, I felt a great surprise, and I was curious about how long it took them to form in this way."

Although the site continues to be affected by natural factors, changes occur very slowly and can only be observed over hundreds of years.
