Hamas announced on Monday the dissolution of its government administrative committee, which had been managing the Gaza Strip, in preparation for handing over administrative tasks to a new national committee. This move comes as part of the ceasefire agreement between the movement and the Israeli occupation, brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in 2025.

A nationally acceptable figure will be appointed as director of the committee's affairs.

Ismail al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office and official spokesman for the Gaza government, told AFP: 'Mohammed al-Farra, head of the Government Emergency Committee and acting head of the Government Follow-up, officially resigned from his position,' and 'the Government Emergency Committee was dissolved to facilitate the administrative and governmental transition to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which was agreed upon by Palestinian factions and forces.'

The source pointed out that a nationally acceptable figure will be appointed to manage the committee's affairs, which will become a caretaker committee until the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza formally assumes its governmental duties in the Strip.

This development comes after more than two decades of the movement's control over the Strip, with Hamas emphasizing that this step represents a gesture of goodwill towards Palestinian factions and international powers supporting the agreement.

The new national committee, which will take over the administration of Gaza, was formed under the chairmanship of Ali Shaat, a former Palestinian government official, and under the supervision of the Peace Council established by US President Donald Trump.

Palestinian factions welcomed Hamas's announcement, considering it a serious gesture to prepare suitable conditions for the work of the new committee.

The committee's head, Ali Shaat, and its members are temporarily residing in Cairo, as Israel has not approved their entry into Gaza, according to a committee member.

This announcement comes after a series of meetings held in Cairo between Hamas leaders and mediators, with other Palestinian factions participating. During these meetings, Hamas representatives affirmed to international mediators their readiness to complete this process, reinforcing hopes for restoring stability in the Strip.
