The Tokyo Fire Department announced that heatstroke cases in Tokyo have risen to 287 amid a severe heatwave gripping the country.

The department reported, according to NHK, that patients aged between 3 and 10 years were transported to hospitals in Tokyo after showing symptoms of heatstroke, noting that 10 of them are in critical condition. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of continued dangerous high temperatures today over vast areas of the country, and also warned of heatstroke in 41 of the country's 47 prefectures, stretching from the Tohoku region to Okinawa Prefecture.

The agency advised citizens to avoid staying outdoors for long periods, use air conditioners, and drink sufficient fluids.
