A video clip documenting a heroic rescue moment on one of Egypt's roads became the talk of social media platforms, after a truck driver succeeded in preventing a transport truck from overturning, in a quick move that prevented an accident that could have claimed the lives of several road users.

While the clip received widespread praise, driver Emad Jalal revealed details of the incident to Sky News Arabia, stressing that he did not expect the situation to turn into a story shared by millions.

The video showed a 'Jumbo' transport truck leaning dangerously while moving on the road, after a malfunction caused it to lose balance, before a 'trailer' truck driver, who was driving directly behind it, intervened and drove alongside the leaning truck to support it with his truck and prevent it from overturning.

Social media users praised the driver's quick wit and courage, considering that his intervention prevented a horrific accident, especially with the possibility of the loaded truck overturning onto passing cars.

Despite the widespread circulation of the clip, it turned out that the circulated video includes a part modified using artificial intelligence techniques, while the driver confirmed that the real part is the one documenting the moment of supporting the transport truck and preventing it from falling.

Emirati businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor praised the Egyptian driver's courage, saying it was a 'spontaneous situation' that summarizes many of the Egyptians' qualities such as chivalry, gallantry, and quick wit. He added that it was a practical action without hesitation, 'while some might think for a long time or fear getting close, this man had already made his decision and started helping.'

Al Habtoor concluded his tweet saying: 'Salute to him for his good action, intelligence, and courage. These are the moments that bring a smile and confirm that Egyptian gallantry is always present at the right time.'

Details of the incident

Commenting on the incident, driver Emad Jalal said that his intervention was spontaneous, after he saw the truck leaning in front of him, so he acted quickly without hesitation, explaining that the reason for the tilt was not a tire explosion as rumored, but a break in the suspension system (the shock absorbers and springs), which caused it to suddenly lose balance.

He told Sky News Arabia that he continued to support the truck for a distance of nearly 500 meters, until the other driver managed to control the vehicle and stop it safely.

Emad stressed that he 'did not feel fear, and his only concern at that moment was to prevent the accident,' noting that he 'left the scene as soon as the situation ended, without waiting for thanks or even getting to know the driver of the truck he rescued.'

He added that 'to this day, he does not know the driver he rescued, nor does he know the person who filmed the incident, and all he was concerned about at that moment was saving the situation and preventing a disaster,' considering that 'such situations may happen repeatedly on the roads, but he did not expect this action to receive all that attention on social media.'

Emad explained that 'the truck he rescued was loaded with cotton, while he was driving a trailer loaded with containers on his way back to Menoufia Governorate after finishing his work in Kafr El Zayat, while the incident occurred on El Mahalla road.'

He stressed that if he had not intervened in time, the truck would have overturned onto passing cars on the road, saying that 'the truck would have overturned toward any car passing by, which would have led to great loss of life and property.'
