Members of the Syrian People's Council elected on Sunday Abdul Hamid al-Awak as Speaker of the Council, after he obtained 99 votes.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa affirmed - according to what was published by the Syrian Arab News Agency - that the launch of the People's Council represents an important national milestone, with which we take a new step towards consolidating consultation and responsibility, and building state institutions on the foundations of dialogue, competence, and the rule of law.

First session with al-Sharaa present

The Syrian People's Council held its first session on Sunday in the presence of President al-Sharaa, the head of the Supreme Committee for Council Elections, Muhammad al-Ahmad, the 206 members of the council, and a number of ministers.
