Including 'Greater Tunb'.. US Army Announces Completion of Second Wave of Strikes on Sites in Iran
(CNN)-- The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a social media post that the US Army completed its second wave of strikes against Iran on Thursday.
CENTCOM stated in a post on platform X, formerly Twitter, that 'the US Air Force targeted Iranian command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities, aiming to further undermine Iran's ability to threaten innocent sailors operating on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.'
CENTCOM explained that it 'used precision-guided munitions to strike targets at multiple locations, including Bandar Abbas.'
Earlier on Thursday morning, US forces launched strikes targeting coastal defense sites and cruise missiles on Greater Tunb Island during a 90-minute wave.
CENTCOM added: 'The US Army is working to hold Iran accountable based on the commander-in-chief's directives.'
In March, CNN highlighted the importance of several islands - including Greater Tunb - which are part of what one researcher described as Iran's 'defensive arc.'
