Iran Claims: US Missiles Targeted Water Desalination Plant
(CNN)-- A regional official said a US missile attack damaged a water desalination plant in southern Iran, in the latest wave of attacks.
Desalination plants are a vital source of drinking water for Gulf countries.
According to the deputy governor of Hormozgan province, 'several missiles' targeted electrical facilities and water pumps of a desalination plant in the coastal Bonji area, cutting off water to 20 villages.
He added that an assessment of the damage is underway.
Iranian media published images showing the reported damage to the site.
CNN is reaching out to the US military for comment.
The United States carried out its seventh straight night of strikes against Iran, saying it targeted military and naval sites as part of its efforts to wrest control of the Strait of Hormuz from Iran.
