Iranian authorities reported that US missiles targeted on Tuesday evening a power station near the Bushehr nuclear plant in the south of the country.

The Iranian Fars news agency quoted the governor of Bushehr on Wednesday as saying that the attack led to a power outage in the village of Bandargah, which belongs to the province.

It added that emergency teams managed to restore power to the village about two hours after the attack.

For about two weeks, the United States has been launching waves of strikes on Iran, while the latter responds with attacks on military bases, facilities, and sites it says are linked to Washington in countries in the region.

The escalation comes despite Washington and Tehran signing a memorandum of understanding last June that included a cessation of hostilities that began on February 28 last, and launching negotiations to reach a broader agreement.

However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 this month the end of the ceasefire after tankers in the Strait of Hormuz were attacked, which Washington accused Tehran of being behind, prompting the United States to resume its strikes inside Iran.

Washington demands that Tehran stop attacking ships and 'ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz,' while Iran insists on subjecting the passage of ships to a mechanism it regulates through the waterway overlooking its coasts, exacerbating fears of disruption to oil and gas exports from the region.

Washington supports the passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz on a different route from that set by Iran, which Tehran rejects, asserting that it targets any ship that does not coordinate with it before crossing this strategic strait for global energy supplies.
