An initial CT scan conducted before the autopsy revealed that the victim suffered from multiple severe fractures extending from the skull to the pelvis, suggesting he was subjected to a brutal and severe beating before his death and the burning of his body. Police also found empty bullet casings near the crime scene, but the preliminary examination did not conclusively confirm gunshot injuries.

Raffaele Cantoni, a senior official in the anti-mafia unit in the city of Salerno, is overseeing the investigations, which are examining all potential motives—whether financial, emotional, or related to the victim's journalistic work—despite the fact that "Esposito" was single, had no children, and had no known connection to the area where his body was found.

The victim's sister confirmed that he had a calm demeanor and no enemies, expressing her astonishment at the brutal nature of the incident.

Meanwhile, journalist Barbara Pilly sparked controversy on social media regarding the existence of a relationship between "Esposito" and the regional environmental protection agency "Arbac" in the Campania region. Although the agency officially denied that he worked for them, his sister explained to local media that he had previously told her about his past work with the agency, which added further mystery to the case.
