The Qatari Emiri Diwan announced today the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former emir of the state and father of the current emir, at the age of 74.

The Emiri Diwan issued a statement saying: "The Emiri Diwan mourns the great figure of the nation, the late, by God's will, His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning, Sunday, 27 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to 12 July 2026, at the age of 74."
