Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh discussed on Wednesday with Jordanian General Intelligence Department Director Ahmad Husni al-Sharqasi the bilateral relations between the two countries and a number of issues of common concern.

This came during Dbeibeh's reception of al-Sharqasi in the capital Tripoli, according to a statement issued by the internationally recognized Government of National Unity.

The statement said that the meeting discussed Libyan-Jordanian relations and ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two countries, along with consultation on developments in the regional situation and issues of common concern.

Libya is witnessing a political division between the internationally recognized Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh based in Tripoli (west), and the government assigned by the House of Representatives headed by Osama Hammad based in Benghazi (east).

For years, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya has been sponsoring a dialogue between the Libyan parties with the aim of reaching a political settlement leading to general elections that end the state of division in the country and put an end to the transitional stages ongoing since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
