What is the truth about Iran's control of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz with only specified paths? The US Army responds
(CNN)—Official and semi-official Iranian media circulated reports about the navigation situation in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that Tehran only allows ships to pass through paths it has designated, prompting the US Army to respond.

The US Central Command said in a post on its X platform (formerly Twitter) account: "Claim: Iranian state media alleges that transit through the Strait of Hormuz is only permitted through paths determined by Iran... Reality: Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz..."
The Command added: "Since early May, US forces have helped facilitate the safe transit of over 800 commercial vessels and 380 million barrels of crude oil through this vital international trade corridor."
This comes as tensions escalate again in the region, after US President Donald Trump announced the "end" of the agreement with Iran, and the United States launched new strikes against Iran on Tuesday and reimposed sanctions on Iranian oil sales, in response to attacks targeting commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz, prompting the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to target sites in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
