Agencies - Damascus: Arabs and Peoples of the Middle East

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a post on platform X after arriving in Damascus on Monday: 'I am here to affirm France's commitment to the Syrian people. For a sovereign, unified Syria with its diversity, living in peace with its neighbors... Let us together open a new page of stability and peace.'

For his part, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara confirmed that France has been a friend of the Syrian people since the days of the revolution that was suppressed by the former regime, and since liberation, French President Emmanuel Macron has been in contact with us, and France played a constructive role in lifting sanctions on Syria.

President al-Shara said in an interview broadcast on Monday on French channel BFMTV that the visit of the French president to Syria constitutes an important development in relations between the two countries, noting that France will work in infrastructure and the financial sector, and there are many sectors in which France can work.

Al-Shara added that Syria is currently experiencing a reconstruction phase, and it has many components, and it needs countries advanced in technology, and France is one of the most developed countries in this field.

He pointed out that the former regime was active in drug manufacturing and trafficking, and since our arrival in Damascus, we have dismantled drug manufacturing and trafficking networks.
