Minister of Environment and Climate Change: Environmental situation in Qatar stable, no causes for concern

Doha, April 15 (QNA) - His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, affirmed that the environmental situation in the State of Qatar is stable and there are no indicators or phenomena that cause concern, stressing that the ministry continues its work according to an integrated environmental monitoring system based on the latest technologies.

His Excellency explained, in an interview with Qatar TV broadcast this evening, that the environmental monitoring system in the country includes advanced networks for monitoring air quality, water quality, and radiation, where data is collected in real-time from monitoring stations distributed across various regions of the state and sent directly to the central operations room in the ministry for analysis and appropriate decision-making.

He pointed out that the State of Qatar has 48 air quality monitoring stations, in addition to 20 stations distributed on main roads, along with water quality monitoring stations, stressing that all these systems operate with modern technologies that ensure data accuracy and continuity.

Regarding radiation monitoring, he indicated that the ministry has an independent system for monitoring radiation levels within the state and in marine areas, noting that a comprehensive radiation survey has been conducted to determine baseline natural levels, enabling immediate detection of any abnormal changes.

He added that the early warning system and data analysis allow for assessing any potential emergency, using simulation models to predict possible scenarios within 48 hours, in cooperation with the relevant authorities and the Civil Defense Council.

His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change stated that there is regional and international cooperation in exchanging radiation-related data, including cooperation with GCC countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency, which enhances the speed of response and decision-making.

In a related context, he pointed out that the ministry makes environmental data available to the public through the air quality platform on its website, which displays interactive indicators showing the state's air status in real-time and transparently.

He also stressed that the ministry is continuously developing the monitoring system by expanding networks, updating technologies, and building national capacities through qualification and scholarship programs in nuclear and environmental engineering, in cooperation with educational and government entities.
