(CNN) — A diplomat briefed on the visit told CNN that Qatari negotiators went to Iran to meet with officials there, in an effort to de-escalate tensions and set the stage for resuming talks between the United States and Iran.
The source said the trip was organized in coordination with the United States.
Friday saw a lull in fighting, after escalating strikes threatened to undermine the agreement between the United States and Iran, as mediators seek to bring both sides back to the negotiating table.
A US official told CNN earlier that the military was conducting deliberate strikes and then pausing, in order to avoid escalation and make room for diplomacy.
