(CNN)-- As the Iranian capital is crowded with massive crowds attending the funeral of Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated in a US-Israeli strike, the whereabouts of his son, Iran's new Supreme Leader, remain unknown.

Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly so far, raising doubts about his health and prompting questions about who is leading the country.

Although the Iranian government has detailed a number of events, it has not announced any plans for Mojtaba to appear, although any such decision is unlikely to be announced in advance for security reasons.

Mojtaba is believed to have been injured in the attack that killed his father, mother, and wife.

Mojtaba has been in hiding since the war began in late February, and only communicates with his supporters through written statements published by Iranian media and attributed to him. He has not shown his face or spoken at all.
