The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, announced a program to revitalize joint Arab action based on five main tracks, stressing that the region is going through a 'decisive moment' that requires more effective Arab action to protect common interests, and emphasizing that the Palestinian issue will remain at the top of the League's priorities.

In his first press conference since assuming office, at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Fahmy said the world is witnessing rapid transformations and that Arab countries can no longer be content with the role of spectators, calling for proactive action to preserve the interests of Arab states and prevent leaving their crises and wealth to others.

Palestine a Priority

Fahmy affirmed the League's commitment to defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and working to end the occupation, stressing that Jerusalem will remain at the forefront of the Arab League's concerns in the face of any attempts to change its legal status or erase its Arab identity.

He described what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank as an 'ongoing genocide,' stressing that the League's role will not be limited to issuing statements of condemnation but will extend to supporting international legal prosecutions against those responsible for these violations.

He said: 'Genocide does not fall under the statute of limitations, and those who commit it today will stand before justice tomorrow,' affirming the League's support for all legal paths aimed at holding Israeli officials accountable.

Security a Shared Responsibility

The Secretary-General stressed that Arab national security is a collective responsibility, and that any threat faced by an Arab state affects the security of the entire region, calling for strengthening solidarity and coordination among Arab countries to face common challenges.

He also announced his intention to develop Arab diplomatic tools by strengthening early warning systems, preventive diplomacy, and crisis management, to enhance the League's ability to deal with crises before they escalate.

Administrative Reform and Media Communication

Fahmy confirmed that the next phase will be based on measuring performance by achievements, not slogans, noting that the success of institutions is measured by their practical results. He also pledged to adopt a more open and transparent policy with the media, to enhance the right of the Arab public to access information.

Investment in the Future

The Secretary-General paid special attention to youth and women, affirming that they are partners in shaping the future, alongside the importance of investing in technology and artificial intelligence to enhance the competitiveness of Arab countries amid global transformations.

He pointed out that economic security has become part of national security, given the challenges related to energy, food security, and supply chains, stressing that the League will work to turn Arab economic integration into practical projects that impact citizens' lives.

5 Tracks

Fahmy revealed that the work plan of the General Secretariat for the next phase is based on five main axes: developing Arab diplomacy, enhancing follow-up and implementation mechanisms, restructuring the General Secretariat, investing in human capital and technology, and linking political work to development while expanding Arab participation.

He concluded by calling on Arab states to work in a spirit of partnership, saying: 'Either we make our future with our own hands, or others will make it for us.'
