Omani Foreign Minister Calls for Safeguarding Freedom of Navigation and Protecting Maritime Interests

Muscat, April 10 /QNA/ Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi today called for adopting an approach based on constructive cooperation and shared responsibility to contribute to safeguarding freedom of navigation and protecting maritime interests.

Al Busaidi, during his country's participation in the ninth edition of the Indian Ocean Conference held in Mauritius via video link, affirmed his country's commitment to the principles of international law, including the law of the sea and respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their affairs, stressing the importance of preserving the marine environment, addressing damages resulting from conflicts, and working to achieve a sustainable balance between developing blue economy opportunities and preserving marine ecosystems.

The conference is an important international platform for enhancing dialogue and cooperation among regional countries, discussing common issues and challenges, particularly related to maritime security, freedom of navigation, sustainable management of marine resources, and establishing principles of partnership and regional cooperation.
