(CNN)-- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Doha to attend the funeral ceremony of former Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, according to the semi-official Mehr News Agency.

Al Thani died on Sunday at the age of 74, according to the Amiri Diwan, the highest government body in the country.

Iran has launched repeated attacks on Qatar in recent weeks, using missiles and drones to strike Al Udeid Air Base in response to US strikes, including the one carried out on the day of the former emir's death.

Qatar was a key mediator in the US-Iran talks that led to the memorandum of understanding last June, which is currently collapsing. It is not yet clear whether Araghchi's visit to Doha will include discussions on restoring the ceasefire.

Before the recent resumption of fighting between the United States and Iran, delegations from both countries visited Doha for indirect negotiations.
