The Kremlin considers that Ukraine's intensification of its attacks on Russian territory will only prolong the war, rejecting US assessments that see these strikes as potentially pushing Moscow to negotiate an end to the conflict.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the increase in Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure forces Moscow to expand the security zone on the front, warning that any new escalation will lead to the continuation of military operations for a longer period.

Peskov's statements came in response to the position of US President Donald Trump, who said that the escalation of Ukrainian strikes could contribute to ending the war that Russia has been waging on Ukraine since February 2022.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also pointed out that Russian forces are facing increasing difficulty in protecting their airspace, expressing Washington's hope that these developments will create the necessary conditions for reaching a negotiated settlement.

In response, the Kremlin described this view as a 'miscalculation', stressing that military escalation and increasing pressure will not contribute to advancing the peace process.

Ukraine's attacks on Russia

In recent months, Ukraine has intensified its attacks using drones, targeting oil refineries, storage facilities, and cargo ships, which has caused fuel shortages inside Russia. Meanwhile, the Kremlin affirmed that it still sees willingness on the part of Washington to contribute to establishing a peace process.
