UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed on Thursday discussed with Kuwait's Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the "developments in the Middle East region," coinciding with renewed military escalation between Iran and the United States.

In this context, the two sides affirmed "the importance of working to establish the foundations of stability and lasting peace in the region for the benefit of all its peoples and the development of their countries."

This came during their meeting at Bayan Palace in Kuwait as part of a visit by Mohammed bin Zayed to Kuwait, according to the official UAE news agency.

The discussions, according to the same source, covered "brotherly relations, various aspects of cooperation between the two countries, and joint efforts to develop them, especially in economic development fields, serving their mutual interests."

The two sides also exchanged "views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, foremost among them the developments in the Middle East region."

"In this regard, they stressed the importance of working to establish the foundations of stability and lasting peace in the region for the benefit of all its peoples and the development of their countries."

According to the agency, the UAE President was accompanied during the visit, which lasted several hours, by a number of senior officials, including Deputy President and Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Presidential Office Mansour bin Zayed.

These talks come as Kuwait and Bahrain come under Iranian attacks for the second consecutive day on Thursday, in response to new US strikes.

The United States is launching attacks on Iran in response to its targeting of ships passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz for global energy supplies.

Iran insists on the need for coordination with it before any ship crosses the strait, and refuses passage through any route in Hormuz other than the one it has designated.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding and began negotiations to reach a final agreement, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, but the fate of the negotiations remains unclear amid the current military confrontation.
